Archangel Gabriel Catholic School nurtures each child as a unique creation of God, fostering relationships rooted in the Catholic faith, while empowering students as 21st-century learners and cultivating compassion and advocacy in accordance with the gospels of Jesus Christ.
Archangel Gabriel School was established as a Catholic elementary school within the Diocese of Pittsburgh by approval of Bishop David A. Zubik on February 20, 2019. The school is the product of a merger between the previously existing Holy Trinity Catholic School in Robinson Township and St. Malachy School in Kennedy Township, two Catholic elementary schools with rich histories in the West Hills region since they each opened in 1954. The newly created Archangel Gabriel School officially opened its doors to students on August 26, 2019, with grades K-8 at the Robinson Campus and 3-year-old and 4-year-old preschool at the Kennedy Campus. The preschool was moved back to the Robinson Campus for the 2020-2021 school year.
The name “Archangel Gabriel” was selected to link the patronal names of the three parishes in Parish Grouping 330, which is the grouping served by Archangel Gabriel School. These parishes include Holy Trinity Parish in Robinson Township, St. John of God Parish in McKees Rocks, and St. Malachy Parish in Kennedy Township. The Archangel Gabriel is linked to these three patronal names in the following ways:
The naming of the school also coincides with Parish Grouping 330’s desire to commemorate the late Fr. Kenneth Keene, former pastor and lifelong parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish, who passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2019 after a brief illness. Fr. Keene, who was also a graduate of the former Holy Trinity School, had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, with the Archangel Gabriel being directly correlated to Mary and the story of the Nativity as Gabriel revealed to humanity the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mimicking Mary’s “yes” to the Archangel Gabriel, the communities of Holy Trinity, St. John of God, and St. Malachy parishes resolve to come together in support of Archangel Gabriel School to ensure its future success.
